If I was leaving Earth and had to choose an item to take with me, what would it be? Wow! I will be thinking about this for quite some time. I loved learning that the main character has a vision challenge. This is true of a student in my current class. I look forward to reading the book and sharing it with my students.

I love reading books set in different lands and centering around cultures that are new to me and/or those that I’m not part of because I learn so much. It opens my eyes and increases my empathy for all people when I can see the world through their eyes and walk in their shoes through books.

I can’t wait to read The Last Cuentista, Donna! I love how you mention in the interview that people will get different messages from the book at different ages. As an adult, I love to read literature for children, especially MG. I feel there is a purity of emotion and story in MG and picture books that resembles the impact of a poem.
